How does Halfway work?
Halfway calculates the fair meeting spot between two people based on travel time, not just geographic distance. You and your friend enter your starting locations, choose your transport modes (drive or transit), and we find venues where you'll both arrive in roughly the same time.
Does my friend need to download the app?
Nope! When you choose "Friend will share," we generate a link your friend can open in any browser. They simply drop their pin and select their transport mode – no app download required.
How are searches counted?
A search is only counted when a valid meeting zone is found. If you and your friend are too far apart (no overlapping travel zones), no credit is deducted. In collaborative mode, credits are used only when your friend actually participates.
What's the difference between Weekend Pack and Host Pass?
Weekend Pack ($4.99): Adds 20 searches to your account. These never expire and can be stacked.
Host Pass ($19.99): A one-time purchase that gives you 40 searches per month, forever. Resets on the 1st of each month.
What venue types can I search for?
You can search for:
Coffee – Cafes and coffee shops
Food – Restaurants
Drinks – Bars and pubs
Outdoors – Parks and outdoor spots
How are venues ranked?
We prioritize quality over perfect equidistance. Venues where both people travel within ~30% of each other are considered "fair." Within that zone, we rank by ratings and reviews – so you get great spots, not just mathematically perfect ones.
Can I use different transport modes than my friend?
Yes! Each person can choose their own transport mode. You might drive while your friend takes transit – Halfway calculates a fair meeting point that respects both travel preferences.
What if the search fails or locations are too far apart?
If your locations don't have overlapping travel zones (e.g., you're in different cities), you'll see a friendly message explaining this. No credit is deducted when this happens.
How do I restore my purchases?
Open the app, go to Settings, and tap "Restore Purchases." This will sync any previous purchases with your current device.
Is my location data stored?
We only use your location to calculate meeting spots – it's not stored long-term or shared with third parties. Check our Privacy Policy for details.
